John H. Reaves represents and counsels businesses on a wide range of environmental, construction, real estate and business law issues. Mr. Reaves' primary practice focus is representing clients in:

  • defense and prosecution of environmental cost recovery suits,
  • environmental compliance counseling, and
  • “Brownfields” transactions.

He has represented clients in CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, CAA, HSAA, Proposition 65, CEQA and common law claims filed in both state and federal court. The cases he has worked on include major soil and groundwater contamination cases, large class action toxic exposure matters and product cases involving toxic components.

Since 1986, Mr. Reaves has both prosecuted and defended a broad spectrum of companies including: oil & gas refiners and marketers, gas station owners and operators, auto repair and dealers, dry cleaners, electroplaters, shopping centers and real estate brokers.

Among Mr. Reaves noteworthy cases and assignments are:

  • Super Plating Superfund Litigation (San Diego, CA)
  • E-Z Serve, Inc.’s Policyholder Litigation re 100 polluted sites in 3 states (San Diego, CA)
  • California Federal Bank v. Fire Insurance Exchange post-foreclosure mortgagee loss litigation
  • Industrial Circuits’ ASTs Amendments to Cal. Health & Safety Code in conjunction to California State Senator Gordon Cologne.

He has lectured frequently on environmental and insurance matters. Mr. Reaves co-chaired the Environmental Law/Land Use Section of the San Diego County Bar Association from 1986 to 2001, 2003-2005.

Mr. Reaves received his law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1983, where he was a member of the law review. He was admitted to practice in California the same year.
